Homeowner Handover Guide

Scope

This checklist helps you record visible items and questions at cabinetry handover. It does not report local defect rates or assign causes to an issue.

Quick Answer

Compare the finished cabinetry with the written quotation and approved project drawings, try the agreed doors and drawers, and record any item that needs clarification. Ask the responsible party to confirm the next step and timing in writing.

Cabinet Handover: A Practical Check and Follow-up Guide

Before the Walk-through

Keep the quotation, approved production drawings, finish selections and any agreed change notes available. Use the documents that apply to your project to confirm which cabinets, fittings and finishing work were included.

What to Check

  • Confirm the installed cabinetry and visible finish match the agreed layout and selections.
  • Open and close each door and drawer normally; note any item that catches, feels misaligned or does not operate as expected.
  • Check that the listed shelves, handles, internal fittings and other quoted items are present.
  • Look over visible surfaces, edges and joins at ordinary room distance, and record any damage or finish concern for review.
  • Where cabinets meet other trades or services, note access or coordination questions and identify which party the project documents assign to follow up.

Record Items Clearly

For each question, write down the room and cabinet location, what you observed, and when it was noticed. A photo can help identify the location. Describe the condition without guessing whether it came from installation, a product, another trade or later use; the cause may need inspection.

Agree the Follow-up

Share the list with the project contact and ask who will review each item, what happens next, and when you should expect an update. Scope, response arrangements, adjustments and warranty coverage depend on the written agreement for that project, so check those terms rather than assuming one process applies to every job.

Keep the Close-out Records

Save the final quotation, approved drawings, product information, handover notes and any follow-up correspondence together. These records make it easier to describe the agreed specification if you later need care guidance or service.

Need to Clarify a Cabinetry Item?
