The Challenge
Utility Obstruction
Like many RPN housing units, the galley kitchen was intersected by standard utility conduits and an awkwardly placed electrical breaker box. Most off-the-shelf cabinets would have forced the client to either lose storage depth or leave the wiring exposed and unsightly. The goal: maximize vertical structural mass while maintaining uncompromised circulation channels.
Location
Lambak Kanan (RPN Housing)
Space
Narrow 3.2m footprint
Focus
Floor-to-Ceiling Storage
The Craft Response
We engineered a staggered cabinet depth. By utilizing our local workshop to create custom-notched carcasses, we "wrapped" the cabinetry around the utility conduits. We integrated a hidden, push-to-open access panel for the breaker box, keeping it fully accessible but invisible within the overall galley design.
- — +20% more storage vs standard
- — Custom-notched carcasses
- — Hidden access panels
Technical Architecture
Full-Height Carcasses
For the upper tier, we used full-height carcasses up to the ceiling—adding 20% more storage for seasonal Raya items compared to standard builder-grade units.
Aisle Circulation
We kept the main work aisle clear enough for two-person cooking by controlling handle projection and door swing zones before fabrication.
